"US police kill more than two people a day, says report" by Herald with Washington Post, an article from Buenos Aries Herald Newspaper in Argentina, posted on Monday, June 1, 2015, tells us about the spike in police killings in America. At least 385 people have been killed by the police this year. 80% of these people were armed, mainly with guns. 49 people these people were unarmed, 13 of which ended up holding toys. We need to understand why this is happening but America lacks the political will to do so. However there is a national debate about police use of deadly force especially against minorities considering the fact that half of the death toll were minorities.
This connects to the historical theme of SPICE. Ethnicity is involved in the minority death toll. Politics are involved from the national dispute and cases that have been made. This effects our interaction with our environment because now minorities are more fearful in places where there are more cops. This effects our culture in music with rap lyrics, and the common trend of not liking or distrusting the police. This effects our economy because it will effect organizations involved with protecting people from abusive police.
